Kettering math professor Kevin Tebeest put a sophisticated Personal Weather Station on the roof of his garage about a year and a half ago. As a hobby, he keeps local weather data and compiles it on his weather Web site.

BURTON, Michigan -- Looking for the low-down on local weather? It's up on the roof of Kevin TeBeest's Burton garage.

TeBeest is one of 477 registered Personal Weather Station owners in Michigan (there are 9,907 in the U.S. and 3,170 in other countries) who supply the real-time, onsite data for Weather Underground, the internet's original weather Web site.

Junior

VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Michigan -- When Anette Hetzer called The Flint Journal after her family's dog was mistakenly euthanized at the Genesee County Animal Control, she never expected all the attention that came with telling her story.

More than 125 comments were posted in response to the story on The Journal's Web site and the story of Junior the black lab was retold on television and radio and on newspaper Web sites around the country.

Some readers have supported the Hetzers and expressed sympathy to the family while others criticized them for allowing Junior to escape in the first place and for not having a dog license or up-to-date vaccinations.

Several people also have attempted to contact the Hetzers, offering them a replacement dog or puppy.
